Herencia Indigena
Irebid Gilbert is a Santa Maria native and daughter of immigrant Mixtec parents. Irebid is the executive director of Herencia Indigena and a former Data Analyst for Dignity Health’s Central Coast Division. Irebid holds a master’s degree in public policy from Cal Poly, a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from San Jose State University, and a degree in math and science. Her life mission is to advocate for our indigenous community who reside on the central coast. Years ago, Irebid combined her expertise in data analysis and passion to serve others to establish Herencia Indigena. She has created many jobs designated to introduce trilingual interpreters to the healthcare workforce. She has increased access to health services by bridging the gap between Mixteco-speaking patients and healthcare providers. To date, Herencia Indigena has provided Mixtec Cultural Awareness training to thousands of providers across the central coast, including physicians, registered nurses, and other healthcare staff. Herencia Indígena has had the pleasure of advocating and interpreting for over 72,000 Mixtec patients across the central coast.
